Moving your body just feels good— it gets the blood moving, the heart pumping, the joints juiced up…and brings you right into the moment—the be here now factor! When you move and dance, it strengthens the body, tones the muscles, and loosens you up, releasing tensions, aches, thoughts, whatever needs to go.
This Gypsy signature styling is an eclectic, invigorating, and elegant fusion based on urban, folk, ritual, trance, bellydance, and modern dances. With a background in classical dance training, Paulette Rees Denise created this rich blend of contemporary movement, based on our common non-verbal language and group improvisation, which is aesthetically pleasing, spiritually grounding, and physically rewarding.
While this dance evokes a feeling of ancient times, of tribal spirit and camaraderie, of family, of personal freedom, it is important for it to be recognized as a dance of today. It is a dance for all of us. The community aspect of the dance, the circle, with its exciting creative synchronicity, brings dancers together in total acceptance and support of each other, as they make magic together. When you do this dance, whether on your own or in a class, you can feel the flowing energy of the dance, from your intuitive creative core, from your womb, your energy center, your whole being. Now that’s powerful stuff. The beauty of the dance is that it is different for everyone and every body. Dancers around the world learn the language of our dance, and with artist’s visions, adapt the style to evolve into a tribal version unique to them but with roots grounded in Gypsy Caravan traditions.
Using the tools you learn through learning this dance with me, you develop more skills for living the good everyday life—deeper breathing, improvisation techniques, intuition and confidence building, healthy food choices, fitness instruction and guidance, being creative, ornamenting and falling in love with yourself all over again. We all support and encourage each other. Did you know that encouragement is contagious?
Breathing deep is a big deal, and something we often forget to do and take for granted. Nothing like slowing down for a minute and taking a big full lung expanding deep breath, even with a vocal sigh at the end. Ahhhh…connect back to yourself. As we dance, we connect our movements with our breath to be in the organic flow.
Improvising, creating in the moment, is the same thing as problem-solving, and trusting your intuition to make the right choice, on the spot, when you need to. So you can walk tall and proud through your day and trust in your gut reactions and decisions. And feel good about them.
You use your eyes in the dance to watch each other, you are not afraid to make eye contact, you become comfortable looking at other-eyes, hips, shoulders, mouth, instead of dipping your head down or looking into the distance when you are conversing with someone. You know that feeling, when you are talking with someone, and they are looking over your head instead of at you? Not anymore.
You gain the confidence to be really and truly present. You can walk your talk, or dance your talk, as I like to say… you move forward with intention, you move forward from your heart, your fourth chakra; or your belly, your power center, your third chakra; or womb, your creative parts. You do what you really want to do, you learn how to be more direct and mean it.
You learn how to look at yourself, both inside and out… look in the mirror and start to love what you see, fall in love with yourself, all over again… big, small, young old, no worries… you are gorgeous, just how you are. You are meant to be here, to take up space!
And some of the extra fun is when you start to ornament yourself a little differently! Adding a couple of necklaces, not just one; wearing that big skirt and loving it, and some huge hoops on your ears, and you get that tattoo you always wanted, what about the red lipstick? No, you don’t have to. But you will feel like dressing to feel good, to strut your beautiful stuff, show off yourself. Be that woman you want to be.
And how does all that carry over into your other parts of daily life? You eat healthy whole foods, with awareness, you tread a little lighter on the earth, you donate or volunteer, you laugh more, your self-awareness helps you to do the job you love, and to do your work with conviction and pride. Just by dancing and becoming deeper into yourself, you can change your life and lifestyle. And you also know that you are fabulous just as you are, you are enough. No judgment, no comparison shopping, no competition.
And that’s just the tip of all the good stuff you get when you keep up your practice. Life changing and empowering.
