The Chakras & Energy

The Chakras…What are they and why are they important???

The Chakra system is an amazing map that gives us a reflection of where we are in life, they allow us to energetically engage with life on the planet as a Spiritual being in a physical body…I will often say to my students, if we were to cut ourselves open we would n’t find a spinning wheel of coloured light inside, but what we would find is a bundle of nerves and glands…

On an energetic level, we can’t see anger, jealousy or love, but we can certainly feel these emotions strongly in our body, so they exsist…Emotions are Energy in Motion…

Over the Years, i have enjoyed working with the Chakras in my own life, and also in my Classes as they are such a great tool for life,i have discovered at if i start doubting myself, feel low in inspiration, i know i need to take time to rest, eat well, spend time in Nature to recharge (Root Chakra) Have fun, do something creative, maybe have a massage or work on self care practices, be indulgent with my senses (Sacral Chakra) and that will help to build the fire and passion in (Manipura)  Chakra)  and give me the Fire and inspiration to carry my work and life  forward from the Heart in an authentic way ( Heart Chakra), express my truth ( Throat Chakra) Listen to my Intuition (Ajna Chakra) and live fully in connection with the Divine, Source…

So… How do we keep our Chakra system functioning well?..

.Here are my 8 go to practices to keep my Chakra system, energy levels and mood high…

  1. Time in Nature…Daily walks in Nature help on so many levels, walking helps to keep our weight stable, gives us such a great feeling of well being, increasing feel good chemicals in the brain, reduces feelings of lethargy and depression due to taking in natural sunlight, fresh air and the colour green is a harmonizing and balancing colour so Mother Nature has equiped us with everything we need for free!!
  2. Dance…My favourite combination of exercise, i have danced in one way or another for most of my life, beginning with ballet classes at the age of 5!! A Soulie from age 11 and a clubber up until my 20’s, dance is such an amazing and freeing thing to do, music is a great healer so anytime you feel down or low in energy, put on your fave track and have a good boogie, it cant fail to help you feel better and encourage energy flow and get the circulation flowing well…
  3. Yoga…Meditation….I have practiced Yoga and Meditation since my late 20’s and i can’t recommend it enough on so many levels…It allows us the time and space to pull our energy inward, check  in on ourselves and take time to really take notice be in the moment, a place we rarely get to in the course of our busy days…Time to connect with the Spirit part of ourselves..Our Soul…a part of us that is easily neglected these days…It allows us access to the energy of the Heart…To Love, our real essence, our True self…
  4. Relaxation…The key to everything…Make time for a 20 minute Guided Relaxation daily..You will be amazed at how much more energy you will have if you can include this into your day, it is key to our bodies ability to repair and recharge it’s energy levels.Taking time for a daily Relaxation is key to good energy levels, good digestion. Healing, balancing, feeling connected and aligned with ourselves and our intuition and we just don’t do enough of it!! We feel guilty if we take time to rest during the day, it is not only beneficial, it is crucial to our health and well being.Taking time for a daily Relaxation is key to good energy levels, good digestion. Healing, balancing, feeling connected and aligned with ourselves and our intuition and we just don’t do enough of it!! We feel guilty if we take time to rest during the day, it is not only beneficial, it is crucial to our health and well being. See if you can fit in a 10 minute break in your day, even just closing your eyes, taking a breath, and consciously relaxing each part of your body from your feet upwards. If you are lucky enough to work from home, maybe 20 minutes after lunch would be possible, you will see an instant difference in your energy levels if you can make it a habit.Getting yourself into a comfortable position, either on the floor or in a chair or outside on the grass.

Take a moment to feel the ground beneath you holding you and supporting your weight.

Take a deep breath in through the nose, and let it out with a sigh through the mouth..

Do this a couple of times until you feel calm.

Taking your awareness into your feet..toes and ankles, breathe in and as you breathe out, let all tension release into the ground beneath you..

Continue in this way through the shins and calves, the knees, the thighs, buttocks, lower back, mid back, upper back and shoulders.

Down the arms, hands, fingers, into the abdomen, chest, neck head and face until you feel your whole body being held by the Earth beneath, allow yourself to rest here, being aware of your breath gently moving in and out of your abdomen, move into stillness.

Affirm “I am calm, supported and completely relaxed”

Rest until you feel ready, then, bringing awareness back, awakening the body by bringing gentle movement back into hands and fingers, draw the knees into the chest and rock side to side, roll off to the right side and come to sit.

Rub the palms together and cup them over the eyes, allow an inner smile to rise from you heart, into your face and eyes and into the rest of your day.

  5. Food & Water…Nourish yourself with fresh food and water…It’s easy to get drawn to buying food that is ready prepared as time is often short, but taking a bit of extra time to get organized can really help in creating a healthier and more natural diet…Do a meal plan for the week, you may even find you spend less as you are only buying the foods that you need…Cut down on sugar and caffeine as these are both energy depleters and deplete the immune system…Eat like your Gran would have eaten, with high energy foods, locally grown, or grow a few salads and veggies yourself, home delivery boxes are a great idea too…Drink plenty of water, that doesn’t include tea and coffee though, i would reccommend reducing these to 3 cups a day, and drink good quality fresh coffee…its worth the extra effort…Try infused waters, these are absolutely lovely, add cucumber, lime and mint to a jug of filtered water and infuse overnight, you could try lots of other combo’s too, be creative…
  6. Sleep well…Get a good nights sleep and shut down computors by 10pm…The blue light emissions from the Computor screen interferes with our circadian rythms…

WHAT IS CIRCADIAN RHYTHM? If you’ve ever noticed that you tend to feel energized and drowsy around the same times every day, you have your circadian rhythm to thank. What is it, exactly? Your circadian rhythm is basically a 24-hour internal clock that is running in the background of your brain and cycles between sleepiness and alertness at regular intervals. It’s also known as your sleep/wake cycle. For most adults, the biggest dip in energy happens in the middle of the night (somewhere between 2:00am and 4:00am, when they’re usually fast asleep) and just after lunchtime (around 1:00pm to 3:00pm, when you may feel the need for a Post lunch nap. Those times can be different if you’re naturally a night owl or a morning person. You also won’t feel the dips and rises of your circadian rhythm as strongly if you’re all caught up on sleep. It’s when you’re sleep-deprived that you’ll notice bigger swings of sleepiness and alertness. If you are getting lots of late nights, you will be eating into your energy reserves so do try to get a good nights sleep, you will find you have much more energy through the day…

  7. Who do you spend your time with?…Watch how your energy levels can soon drop if you are spending lots of time around negativity, i haven’t had a TV or Newspaper  in my house for over 4 years now and i am really aware how the Media can share lots of negativity through News feeds, i would really reccommend reducing the time spend feeding into this, it can cause an awful lot of unnessesary wworry and stress, especially if you are watching the News or violence on TV before bed…Negative people, we all have them to deal with, family, partners, friends, work colleagues, try to avoid being drawn into negative conversations and drama, changing the subject, or making  an excuse to hang up the phone are ways of avoiding getting drawn in. If spending time with negative people is unavoidable, take time to do an energy sweep, by sweeping down from the shouler through each finger on both arms, with the intention of clearing your energy field….Get a shower or bath, set the intention that the water is clearing and cleansing your energy field, watch the negative energy  flow away down the plughole…
  8. Gratitude..Is a superpower…In our Women’s Circle this last Month we have been practicing Gratitude…Having a Grateful disposition raises our vibration more effectively than anything i could have ever imagined…Try it for 31 days and i can guarentee your life will change beyond your wildest imagination…How to create a Gratitude Practice…Take a jar and decorate…At the end of each day, sit down, light a candle and in your mind, run through your day, bring to mind one thing you were Grateful for and why, write it down on a small piece of paper and pop it in the jar..Do this everyday for 31 days and then read back…You could do this for a whole Year!!! Gratitude stone…Find a stone you like, it could be a crystal, one you picked up on the beach or on a walk, give it the intetion of being your Gratitude stone…Place it at the side of your bed and every night before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude stone and think about your day, bring to mind 1 thing you were grateful for and why and repeat Thank you 3 times…Go to sleep with a Grateful heart…What you focus on increases..Enjoy the gifts that you draw towards you with a regular Gratitude practice…
  9. Morning Pages…The method of writing Morning Pages comes from the book The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, a book that teaches broken and frightened artists to get back onto the path of creativity and away from the fear that holds them back…Its not only for Artists..The point of the book is to encourage artists to overcome the voices within and without that spew negativity.I aren’t good enough…Everyone is better than me…I am unworthy…There’s no point, i’ll only fail…Sound familiar? Everyone deals with these demons, whether they come from a teacher, a “friend”, or that nasty voice in the back of your head. The Morning Pages help deal with this negativity in regards to creative work, but the power of the pages are not restricted to this work alone. Anyone can start writing Morning Pages to inspire focus, and direction into their lives..This has been a revelation to me!! I have practiced this for a Month and will be keeping it as a Daily practice forever!!!! In the morning when you wake up, have a book and pen by the bed, write 3 pages of anything that comes to mind, worries, feelings, dreams, emotions, anxieties, negativity,  even if all you can write is, i don’t know what to write over and over again, fill 3 page with words, close the book, don’t read it back, and repeat every morning for at least 31 days, when the book is full, you can re read it if you like, and then burn it in a Fire Ceremony, releasing all your worries to the ether…It is life changing!!
